Art onThe Apartheid Wall

One of my students who lives in Palestine has told me about a graffitti that he saw on the Apartheid Wall which caught his visual attention... it was "Ctrl+Alt+Delete" written on the wall...
In my search to find this image... I stumbled upon other images that can speak louder than I can... Amazing!...

Banksy also records on his website how an old Palestinian man said his painting made the wall look beautiful.
Banksy thanked him, only to be told: 'We don't want it to be beautiful, we hate this wall. Go home.'
I really like them a lot and I have collected photos of them since quite few years....and two are not photos..ha ha ha!

I can understand the old man... he as many others... don't want to accept the existence of the wall... so they are afraid that if it becomes a gallery of 'art' that it will stay...
Though I think that the graffiti is a strong statement... especially when these images circulate around... after all... we live in the age of images... and images are strong... and can create a change!!!

According to wikipedia, not always accurate:
Banksy reportedly said "The Israeli government is building a wall surrounding the occupied Palestinian territories. It stands three times the height of the Berlin Wall and will eventually run for over 700km—the distance from London to Zurich. The wall is illegal under international law and essentially turns Palestine into the world's largest open prison"

Beautiful art does not take away from the fact that Banksy is yet another English anti-semite. Not surprising that he is just another victim of the UK press brainwashing an entire country.....i guess you can only think for yourself to the point of it becoming uncomfortable, and then you have to conform.

As long as the expert graffiti like this focus on a motif of frreedom and overcoming the concept of being walled off (and are done with a spirit of implication that the painter wishes the wall wasn't there to paint on in the first place) then I think this can only help bring a sad awareness of our fear and weakness, mixed with a tinge of hope (the balloon girl is a shining example) that we can be better humans than we are right now.
